TouchPass, the payment system we introduced in 2019, is switching to the brand name “Umo.” Since we still have thousands of cards featuring the TouchPass logo, you’ll be seeing both logos for quite a while. We apologize for any confusion!
How does it work?
Your TouchPass/Umo card works a little like a debit account. You can store rides, passes or stored value on this account. Your TouchPass/Umo card or Mobile App is your key to that account. When you use your card or smartphone on the card reader on the bus, it debits from your account.
What fare products can I store in my account?
- Single-Ride Tickets (11 rides for $10)
- 31-Day Passes
- 92-Day Passes
- Day Passes
- Stored Value* with Fare Capping
*With stored value, you can add any amount of money to your account. This money can then be used to pay your fare, one trip at a time. Stored value never expires, and can be used on any fixed route bus (including Route 80x and routes in Skagit County). It can also be used on WTA’s Lynden Hop. If you are eligible for a Reduced Fare, the system will know this, and will charge you the appropriate fare.
When you pay a fare using stored value, fare capping sets a “cap” or limit on the total amount you’ll pay, within a day ($3) or a calendar month ($30). Once you hit that limit, all rides are free until the end of that day or month. The cap is set at the price of our other passes.
So for example if you pay $1 per trip for 30 trips between the first and 15th of a month (which adds up to $30), the rest of your trips that month are free. Fare capping happens automatically, whenever you’re using your TouchPass/Umo Card or Mobile App.

What if I lose my card?
To get a new card, you’ll have to pay a replacement fee. But if you’ve registered your card, any value you have stored on it will be preserved in your account and will carry over to your replacement card. Register your card at the Customer Service Booth inside the Bellingham Station Lobby, or online at www.ridewta.com.
What are some the features of paying with TouchPass/Umo?
If you have registered your card, you can not only protect the value stored on your card (see above), you can also set up your account to automatically charge you for a new pass before your current pass expires. Or you can sign up for an alert, to let you know when it’s time to purchase a new pass.
If you’re paying with stored value, you can use your TouchPass/Umo card or Mobile App to pay for single rides anywhere in both Whatcom or Skagit County.
Where can I reload my card?
- Your customer account online at TouchPass.com
- Customer Service Booth in the Bellingham Station Lobby.
- If you register your card, you can set it up to automatically reload passes or stored value.
Can I pay fares using my smartphone instead?
Yes. Download the Umo Mobile App from the App Store or Google Play (just search for “Umo Mobility”). If you already have a TouchPass/Umo Card, you can convert it to a Mobile App account within the app. Note that once you switch from a card to the Mobile App, you can no longer pay using your card.
