After months of community engagement and deliberation, including public announcements, surveys, and meetings within Lynden, the WTA Board of Directors has made the decision to end the Lynden Hop pilot on June 16, 2024. This decision, reached in December, was not made lightly, and involved careful consideration by both the Board and staff.
Unfortunately, the current format of the Hop is not financially sustainable. However, this decision does not mark the end of accessible transportation options for Lynden residents. The City of Lynden is served by Route 26, which provides service within Lynden and to Bellingham. WTA also offers paratransit service within 3/4 mile of all fixed routes. Paratransit service is for people whose disability prevents them from using fixed route service. WTA is currently conducting a study aimed at identifying potential areas for future on-demand service. This study will explore alternative approaches to providing similar services in a more cost-effective way.
We appreciate the input and support of the Lynden community throughout this process and remain committed to finding sustainable transportation solutions for all.
