About the Emergency Ride Home Program
What is the Emergency Ride Home Program?
WTA's Emergency Ride Home program provides you with a free taxi ride in the event of an emergency. You can book an Emergency Ride Home from work if you got to work by bus, vanpool, carpool, bicycling, or walking.
Who is eligible for an Emergency Ride Home?
- You must have a current WTA bus pass or you must be a registered Smart Trips participant
- You must also have arrived to work (on the day of the request) by bus, vanpool, carpool, bicycling, or walking.
What situations qualify for an Emergency Ride Home?
- You or a family member becomes ill during your work day
- Your supervisor requires you to work past your normal quitting time, without advance notice
- Your carpool or vanpool partner(s) experience either of the above situations
- Eligible participants can book up to three Emergency Rides home per calendar year
- Rides must be between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday
- Trips must be made within Whatcom or Skagit County
How do I book an Emergency Ride Home?
- Call (360) 676-7433
- Let our Customer Service Representative know you are a current WTA bus pass holder or a registered Smart Trips participant
- The Customer Service Representative will request your travel information, assign you an authorization number and book a taxi pick-up for you
- When the taxi arrives, give the taxi driver your authorization number
- You can make one stop on the way home from your worksite if you need to pick up a prescription or a sick family member.
When is Emergency Ride Home available?
We offer Emergency Rides Home from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
