Youth Ride Free

All riders 18 and younger ride WTA for free—no pass required.
We’re excited to make it easier for young people to get to school, activities, jobs, and adventures around Whatcom County.

How it Works:

Just hop on and ride

Youth do not need a pass, Umo account, or student ID to board the bus.
Simply get on, find a seat, and enjoy the ride.

Ages

  • 0–18: Ride free on all WTA buses
  • 10 and under: Should travel with a parent, guardian, or responsible caregiver
  • 11–18: May ride independently if able to do so safely

Why Ride WTA?

Free youth fares make it easier to:

  • Get to school, practice, jobs, and friends
  • Explore Whatcom County—parks, libraries, trails, and more
  • Build confidence and independence
  • Help our community reduce traffic and carbon emissions

Tips for Riding:

  • Be ready to board before the bus arrives.
  • Keep aisles clear. Strollers and large items must be folded or stored safely.
  • Know your stop. Use the WTA BusTracker or ridewta.com to plan your trip.
  • Be kind and respectful to operators and other riders.

Youth Programs:

WTA partners with local schools and youth organizations to teach students how to ride safely and confidently. Interested in a classroom visit or group training?
