Fares and Passes

 

Cash Fares on Fixed Route Buses

  • WTA’s cash fare is $1.00 for all trips within Whatcom County.   Cash fare when traveling across county lines (between Whatcom and Skagit Counties on Route 80X) is $2.00. 
  • Children under eight and adults over 75 ride FREE.
  • The cash fare for seniors or people with a disability is half the regular cash fare (50 cents within Whatcom County or $1.00 if traveling between Whatcom and Skagit County on Route 80X).   To receive the discount, riders must show a WTA Reduced Fare card or Medicare card.  To apply for a Reduced Fare Card, call 676-6843 (or 676-6844 for TTY).  More details can be found at the end of this page.

Tokens 

One token is valued at $1.00 and good for one ride.  Tokens can be purchased at Bellingham Station.  Sold in packets or 20 ($20). 

Passes

Passes are valid for unlimited travel on all buses.  WTA offers the following pass types: 

  • General public monthly 
  • General public quarterly
  • General public annual
  • Reduced fare monthly
  • Reduced fare quarterly
  • Student monthly (must be age 8 through college, with current school I.D.)
  • Student quarterly (must be age 8 through college, with current school I.D.)

Getting a Reduced Fare Card

People 65 years of age and older, people with a Medicare Card, and people with a disability qualify to receive a Reduced Rate Card from WTA. This card, or a Medicare Card, must be shown to the driver when boarding to qualify for the reduced fare.

To obtain a Reduced Rate Card

     1. Call (360) 676-6843 or (360) 676-6844 (TTY)
     2. Go to Downtown’s Bellingham Station, to the Customer Service Window (in the building)
     3. Go to WTA Administrative office. 

People under the age of 65 with a Medicare Card, SSI eligibility, VA card with 40% or more disability, or Reduced Fare Card from another transit system can call (360) 676-6843 or (360) 676-6844 (TTY), or go to WTA's Administrative Offices. Proof of eligibility is required. Additional Identification may be required.

People with a disability who do not qualify according to the above criteria could still qualify for a Reduced Fare Card. Call (360) 676-6843 or (360) 676-6844 (TTY) for more information.

NOTE:  Reduced Fare Cards are not valid for travel on Specialized Transportation.  All rides on Specialized Transportation are $1.00.
